Hair Extensions - Care

Care Instructions for your new Hair Extensions

You need to take care of your extension hair as you would of your own long hair.

As with your own hair, the less you wash, blow dry and straighten your hair the better. Washing your hair every day is bad and will cause your hair to become dry. Also, washing hair daily is usually followed by blow drying/straightening hair daily. Daily straightening and blow drying will shorten the life span of your extension hair and I recommend only doing this 2-3 times a week.

You can wash, dry and style just like your own hair. You may also curl, straighten or even colour the hair. It is recommend that you use heat protectant products while straightening and blow drying.

Brush your hair starting at the ends and working your way up the hair using a large-tooth comb or the loop brush and supporting the hair at the bonds with one hand. When shampooing your hair, avoid using a circular motion or twisting motion while lathering to keep knots and tangles from forming.

Deep conditioning your hair is recommended and will help in its manageability.

Remove all tangles prior to shampooing. When washing, the most important tip is to keep the hair going straight down your back, this is best done standing in a shower.

Gently squeeze excess moisture from the hair with a towel, do not rub.

Comb through using a wide tooth comb, starting from the bottom and working upwards, always supporting the bond as you do so. Blow-dry as normal.

When dry use your hair straighteners / irons to achieve that glossy finish.

Although the hair extensions are real hair, they are not attached to the scalp and will not receive the same nutrients and oils as your natural hair.

When sleeping, braid your hair into a loose plait to the side to avoid tangling . This is VERY important. Do not sleep with wet hair.

If using hairspray, use only alcohol-free sprays.

Avoid using anything that contains citrus products, these can be very drying to your extension hair.

When blow drying be careful not to set the blow dryer too hot, and keep it at a distance of at least 20cm (8inches). Extreme heat can dry out your extension hair.

Chemical Processes like coloring, tinting or perming can drastically change the surface of the hair, thus stressing it. You should only let authorized professional perform such services in order to get the most out of your extension hair.

PLEASE NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP UP WITH REGULAR RE-LIFTS EVERY 4-6 WEEKS. IF YOU LET THE RE-GROWTH BECOME TOO LONG IT IS PRONE TO MATTING. REGULAR RE-LIFTS WILL PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.

Failure to adhere to these directions will shorten the life-span of your hair extensions. The better care you take of your extension hair, the longer it will last.

Most of all enjoy your extensions!!
